I’ve wondered this too! Anybody know the answer?
My sources tell me there’s never been a mixed team (or girls’ team) at the Olympics.
Men’s bodies are more suited to the event — heavier, stronger.
As to awkward moments between teammates… I’m curious about this, too.
I don’t think pre-race apologies are the issue… it’s the post-race awkwardness; “dude, it was the vibration of the sled, I swear!”.
Thank god these guys don’t luge:

I guess I will weigh in on this since I am some what of an expert on the subject. The Luge federation does allow women to compete in the doubles luge event. But to my knowledge there has only ever been 1 team that actually raced. I believe it was a American Junior team out of Park city and they only lasted a couple of races. Ok now on to the topic that seams to captivated everyones attention towards doubles luge…the seating arrangements! First off, the Top man sits on a seat! Actually he is strapped into that seat with something resembling a climbing harness. The bottom man is squished between the top man and the sled preventing him from getting tossed off the sled if it were to encounter any trouble along the run. If anyone needs help picturing this just take a quick look on youtube under luge. Be sure to watch the crash video since there are heaps of doubles crashes on there!
